Live COVID-19 updates: Russia adds 24,581 new cases

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has recorded 24,581 more COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, slightly down from the all-time high of 24,822 a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Sunday.

The daily increase has been above 24,000 for three consecutive days, according to data provided by the center.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday with the national tally of cases standing at 148.

It marked the 200th straight days without local COVID-19 infections since May 6, and there have been no new imported cases since Oct. 22 when the country recorded an imported case from Kuala Lumpur.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday advised against cruise ship travels as the risk of COVID-19 on liners is very high.

"For most travelers, cruise ship travel is voluntary and should be rescheduled for a future date," the CDC said in a statement on its website.

MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Sunday reported 1,968 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 418,818.

The DOH said 10,957 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 386,486. The death toll climbed to 8,123 after 43 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

SOFIA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria has tripled in less than four weeks, reaching 120,697, official figures showed on Sunday morning.

The health ministry said 2,279 new cases, among 5,729 tests carried out, were registered in the last 24 hours.

BEIJING -- China's National Health Commission has released a guideline on the COVID-19 prevention and control work at blood donation stations to ensure the safety of health workers and donors as well as secure blood supplies in autumn and winter.

Standard prevention measures should be applied to the entire donation process, says the guideline, detailing an array of measures for the protection of the blood station staff, including medics, laboratory personnel and workers who distribute and transport the donated blood.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's health ministry reported on Saturday 6,719 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of infections to 1,032,688.

There were 550 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours, raising the coronavirus-related death toll to 101,373.
