BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,139,865 on Monday as 44,059 new cases were registered, according to the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 133,738 as 511 COVID patients died since Sunday morning.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's health ministry reported on Sunday 9,187 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of infections to 1,041,875.

The country recorded 303 more deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its COVID-19-related death toll to 101,676.

SHANGHAI -- Shanghai reported two new confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and one imported COVID-19 case on Sunday, the municipal health commission said Monday.

The two local cases are both residents in Pudong New Area in Shanghai and close contacts of two previously confirmed local cases.

SYDNEY -- Evidence has shown that human's immune system could maintain its protection mechanism against a second infection of the COVID-19 virus for as long as eight months, easing previous concern that people could lose the immunity in just a few months, Australian researchers said on Monday.

The study was the result of a collaboration among Monash University, Alfred Hospital and the Burnet Institute in Australia, led by Monash University Department of Immunology and Pathology Associate Professor Menno van Zelm.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said on Monday that it narrowed the gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for 2020 to "-6.5 to -6 percent" from "-7 to -5 percent."

The ministry said that it considered the global and domestic economic environment, as well as the performance of the Singapore economy in the first three quarters of this year, before adjusting the GDP growth forecast.
