BUTUAN CITY, May 7 - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - Regional Welfare Office Caraga (OWWA RWO Caraga), together with the other RWOs virtually participated in the simultaneous flag-raising and anniversary celebration via Zoom hosted by OWWA Central Office as OWWA marks its 39th founding anniversary.
In memory of the demise of some colleagues in the agency, a eucharistic mass was offered presided by Fr. Jorge Seldon Coronado of Sto. Rosario Parish Church, Butuan City, for the eternal repose of the soul of the late OWWA employees, and the families of fellow employees who passed away during this time of the pandemic. After the mass, the event featured the virtual message of Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac to officially commemorate the founding anniversary, wherein he expressed his appreciation to the OFWs for all their hard work and sacrifices over the years.
"Patuloy po ang pagsaludo namin sa inyong sakripisyo para sa sambayanang Pilipino," he said. The event also presented the video greetings from the different Regional Offices as one of the highlights of the virtual celebration.
Part of the celebration was the awarding of cheques with the presence of OWWO III/OIC-PSD, Rodel P. Deligero on behalf of the OIC-Regional Director, Ma. Ireen C. Cambaling of OWWA Caraga to the two beneficiaries of the livelihood assistance program worth PhP10,000 under the Balik Pinas! Balik Hanapbuhay Program and another PhP10,000 to one beneficiary of the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP), who are all from Butuan City.
Another highlight of the event was the inspirational message by former DOLE Sec. Marianito D. Roque, who recalled his fond memories about the humble beginnings of OWWA, and articulated his commendation to the current Administrator as to how OWWA continues to implement its mission and vision to the OFWs through the ongoing programs and services, not just for the OFWs but also for their dependents back home.
Alongside this celebration, a webinar series dubbed "Kumusta ka, OWWA?" that emphasized the mental health wellness for OWWA employees hosted by Father Nilo Tanalega, SJ of UGAT Foundation together with their resident psychologists, Kim Lim and Kat Ching. The webinar aimed to tackle the mental well-being of the participants and a channel of enlightenment that will somehow ease the silent battles that everyone is going through in this pandemic.
